Many congratulations to Home Leisure Direct sponsored Karl Boyes for winning the final tournament in the GB9 9 Ball Pool Tour clendar - the British Grand Prix.
It's been a busy and challenging year for Karl, following the huge success he enjoyed as part of Team Europe's incredible result winning the Mosconi Cup again, bringing his total of wins as part of the team to four.
Here, Karl shares with us his thoughts on this most recent triumph and also what has been a very busy and challenging year.
Karl writes:
"I was really happy to win the recent British 9ball event as this years been a strange one on the table, after last years Mosconi Cup I said to myself I need to pick n choose my events to better suit my life away from the game, having a second child is very challenging and a lot more difficult than having just the one!
When my first child Georgie was born in 2011 it was amazing but we sit here now in 2016 and she's a little lady it went so quick it's scary, so when my boy was born last year in July I wanted to try schedule my season a little better.
I played the first 2 euro tours this year and had difficult losses there against top players but I have to admit I wasn't prepared at all for them events and deserved to lose, I didn't pick points up for the Mosconi Cup so I made a harsh decision to not play the rest of the Euro season and try to qualify on the world list, this then give me time at home with Lynette and the kids etc.
Also in March I bought a pool/snooker hall in Blackpool so that was very full on too, you think you can do all this and show up to big events and try to compete against players that literally do nothing else but travel to pool tournaments, how wrong I was.
After missing out on the Mosconi Cup team this year I saw the GB9ball tour was on and thought let's go give it ago and win the thing, maybe it was a little reminder that "hey guys I'm still here!"
Really pleased I went and the team at GB9 have done great things as American pool is still the third most popular cue sport in England to be played, amazing really when it's so popular worldwide. Thanks to Andy Warden who is retiring after this event and good luck to Adam Stevens I'm sure you will do great."
