A Brief History
Early forms of this game were played in the late 1800s, but table football as we know it has been around since the 1920s. Harold Thornton was a big fan of football, supporting Tottenham Hotspur F.C. and wanted to create a home game based on the sport he loved watching so much. By 1921 Thornton had invented the style of table football we play today, and had it patented in 1923.
In 2002, the International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) was set up in France so that table football could be played competitively, with a set of internationally recognised rules by which to play.
There are a range of other names that the game operates under; most commonly foosball, fussball, futsal, baby-foot, Kicker and Footzy.
Table Football Today
Table football today is now a popular game played world-wide. It is a fast paced, exciting game, usually played with two to four players, but longer football tables made to accommodate more players have become popular in recent years.
